Poole Town Return to the Black Gold Stadium for First Competitive Game in Over 7 Months
Date: 29/09/2020
It was a sunny Saturday in Poole and Poole Town’s comeback match after seven months ‘on hold’ due to COVID-19 did not disappoint.
Poole maintained their 100% start to the season in what proved to be a very tight game. The fans were also on excellent form, revelling in the near-misses and cheering their home-town on to their ultimate win.
It was almost the perfect start for Poole when Burbidge hit the post within the first minute of the whistle. That would have been too easy!
Next, Shulton blasted way over for Hayes on four minutes. The game was very close until Bailey Rowe broke the deadlock at 24 minutes when he beat- off two quick defenders to run by and score.
Poole continued to be in the lead until the second half where Hayes were the more threatening. Players Omar Rowe and Amartey caused Poole defence problems and scored their well-deserved equaliser on 64 minutes.
This goal spurred Poole in to action and they regained the lead five minutes later when a great run and cross by Burbidge was met by a fine scissor-kick volley by Lee.
The atmosphere was electric from start to finish and the roars could be heard for miles when the final whistle blew; 2:1 to Poole.
It was clear the Poole Town FC team worked tirelessly to make sure all COVID-19 regulations were met and everyones’ safety and well-being was paramount.
Huge congratulations to the Dolphins for their win on Saturday!
